My crafting adventures at Hobby Lobby in Lake Charles

Let me tell you all about this creative haven in SW Louisiana!

As an avid crafter and hobby enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for great craft stores to fuel my creative passions. So when I heard a Hobby Lobby was opening up right here in Lake Charles, Louisiana, I was absolutely thrilled! As soon as the doors opened, I rushed over to check out the brand new store and get my craft on. Let me tell you all about my experiences at the Hobby Lobby in Lake Charles.

The store is conveniently located at 3135 Gerstner Memorial Drive, right off I-10 in the bustling Prien Lake retail corridor. This store joined nearly 900 Hobby Lobby locations across the country, becoming the go-to spot for arts, crafts, and hobbies in Southwest Louisiana.

My first trip to the Lake Charles Hobby Lobby was on a busy Saturday afternoon shortly after the grand opening. The parking lot was packed, and inside was bustling with fellow crafters and DIYers perusing the aisles. Right away I was impressed by the sheer size and selection available at this location. With over 70,000 square feet of retail space, it’s their largest format store design. I knew I’d be able to find everything I needed and then some!

The store hours make it easy to visit any day of the week. They’re open 9am to 8pm Monday through Saturday, with earlier hours from 10am to 7pm on Sundays. Even better, the store has special holiday hours around major events like Christmas and Easter, when they open at 8am instead of 9am. That’s perfect for early-bird shoppers like me who want first dibs on seasonal supplies!

Speaking of seasonal items, I was thrilled to see an entire wing of the store devoted to holiday and seasonal crafts and decor. They had everything from Christmas trees and ornaments to Fourth of July party supplies. And it was all laid out so nicely in themed vignettes, I was brimming with inspiration for my next holiday project!

In addition to seasonal goods, the Hobby Lobby in Lake Charles carries all the crafting basics and so much more. I could spend hours browsing the massive selection of fabrics, yarn, floral supplies, craft paints and brushes, baking pans, frames, faux flowers, ribbon, baskets, and everything in between. They even have furniture, home decor, wedding supplies, classroom materials for teachers, and more. It’s a creativity paradise!

Beyond the extensive product selection, I love that Hobby Lobby provides inspirational resources to fuel my projects. Throughout the store, they have idea books, project instructions, YouTube videos, and signage with craft suggestions. I picked up a complimentary magazine at the front of the store just brimming with DIY ideas. They also offer free craft classes, though none were on the calendar yet at this new location. I’ll be sure to check back to see when workshops begin!

When I first stepped foot in the store, I grabbed one of the large red shopping baskets. But after wandering the sprawling aisles and filling my basket to the brim, it was clear I needed a cart to contain my haul! Some of my favorite finds included:

  • A set of 72 colored pencils for my adult coloring books – such a great price at only $8.99!
  • An expansive selection of faux plants, garlands, and florals to refresh my indoor decor for spring. So many options to choose from!
  • Fun paper crafts and embellishments to make DIY greeting cards, gift wrap, and scrapbooks. They had everything from ribbon to rhinestones to Die Cut machines!
  • A huge assortment of paints, brushes, canvases, and drawing pads to indulge my attempts at art. Time to tap into my inner Picasso!
  • Cozy yarn in autumnal hues to start knitting scarves, blankets, and more for next fall and winter. I can’t wait to get clicking those knitting needles!

After stocking up on enough supplies to fuel months of creative endeavors, I headed to the registers to check out. Luckily they have 20 checkout lanes at the Lake Charles store, so the lines moved quickly even on a busy Saturday. Within minutes, I was wheeling my loaded cart out the exit with a smile, eager to dive into my new projects.

On my way out, I did remember to snap a photo of the store phone number clearly posted near the entrance. The Lake Charles Hobby Lobby can be reached at (337) 310-4386 if I ever need assistance or want to check if an item is in stock before visiting. And good news for tech-savvy crafters – this location also offers online shopping with in-store pickup!

Since my first introduction, I’ve been back to the Hobby Lobby in Lake Charles countless times to fuel my creative passion. I love wandering the bright, spacious aisles admiring the fully-stocked shelves and displays. And the helpful employees are always happy to track down a particular item or make a recommendation.

No matter what type of DIY or crafting project I’m working on, I can always find inspiration and supplies at this artistic oasis. My craft room has been transformed with materials sourced from their shelves. I’ve completed dozens of home decor crafts, handmade gifts, scrapbooks, and more thanks to their selections. Whenever I need an artsy pick-me-up, you can find me perusing the Hobby Lobby aisles with my red basket in tow!

On one recent trip, I explored the custom framing options with the knowledgeable framing experts on staff. I had some artwork and prints I wanted to preserve and display, so I was thrilled to learn this Hobby Lobby location offers a full-service custom framing studio. They can frame just about anything, from needlework and shadowboxes to jerseys, medals, posters, and more.

I simply brought in the pieces I wanted framed, and the framing pros helped me select the perfect coordinating mats, frames, and mounting options. I was really impressed by the quality of the materials and workmanship. In just a few days, my projects were complete and ready to hang. My framed prints look like they came straight from a gallery rather than my amateur hands! The convenience of having this service right in the store helps crafters display their creations to perfection.

Beyond the retail space, they offer crafters of all skill levels the tools and inspiration to create something beautiful. I’m so glad I have this store right in my backyard to fuel my passion for arts and crafts!

My next project is decoupaging some thrifted furniture, so I already have my eye on some cute paper patterns and Mod Podge sealants for my supply run. I can’t wait to put my own creative spin on these second-hand finds! Whatever your hobby, come check out the amazing selection and helpful staff at the Hobby Lobby in Lake Charles.
