My Adventures at the Hobby Lobby in Baton Rouge

Exploring the Arts & Crafts Paradise of Louisiana’s Capital City

As an avid crafter and hobbyist, I’m always on the hunt for new arts and crafts stores to fuel my creative passions. So when I heard there was a Hobby Lobby location right here in Baton Rouge, I knew I had to check it out!

The Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby is conveniently located at 9351 Cortana Place off of Airline Highway, right next to the Cortana Mall. It’s pretty easy to find – just take I-10 to Exit 162 for Airline Highway, head south for a few miles and it will be on your right just past the mall. There’s tons of parking too, so no worries about finding a spot to start your crafting adventures!

This Hobby Lobby location has all the usual store hours you’d expect:

Monday – Saturday: 9am to 8pm
Sunday: 10am to 6pm

Of course around the holidays, they switch it up to accommodate more customers. I definitely recommend keeping an eye on their website and social media around Christmas, Easter, and other major holidays as they often extend shopping hours.

For example, in the weeks leading up to Christmas they open at 8am instead of 9am Monday through Saturday. And right before the holiday, they even open for a couple hours on Sunday morning before the normal 10am opening time!

The best part is you can actually check the product availability online before going to the store. Just browse the Hobby Lobby website, find the item you want, and enter the Baton Rouge store zip code to see if it’s in stock. This little trick has saved me so much time and headache!

Now let’s get into the fun part – shopping at Hobby Lobby! Based on my many trips to this store, the busiest hours seem to be weekday evenings and weekends. Weekday mornings are generally less crowded if you prefer a more relaxed shopping experience.

Once inside, you’ll discover row after row of arts, crafts, home decor, seasonal items, and more. Some key departments at the Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby include:

  • Art Supplies: paint, brushes, canvases, drawing tools, papers, easels, etc. They have a huge selection for any medium!
  • Scrapbooking: scrapbook albums, papers, stickers, die cut machines, and everything you need to preserve memories.
  • Fabric: apparel fabrics like cotton, fleece, flannel, as well as quilt fabric, yarn, sewing notions, and lace.
  • Floral: silk flowers, greenery, vases, and floral supplies for stunning arrangements.
  • Home Decor: wall art, mirrors, lamps, furniture, rugs, and accent pieces.
  • Seasonal: Christmas, Easter, Fall, and other holiday decor galore!
  • Custom Framing: get your art professionally framed with tons of moulding options.

The store also offers fun arts and crafts workshops on occasion. I once took a two-hour watercolor techniques class and made this beautiful painting of magnolias. Check the store events calendar or ask an employee to see if any workshops are coming up.

If you’re looking to channel your creativity into a career, this Hobby Lobby frequently has job openings for positions like cashiers, stockers, floral designers, custom framing specialists, and more. I applied online and the hiring process was quick and easy.

One of my favorite parts of shopping here is the incredible customer service. The employees are always roaming the floor ready to help. I can’t tell you how many times an associate has helped me track down a specific product or walked me through a DIY project.

And speaking of DIY, the Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby has a designated classroom area where they offer free demonstrations to teach crafting skills. I learned how to use a Cricut machine, make resin keychains, and so much more without having to spend a dime!

Be sure to join their free Hobby Lobby Rewards program to earn discounts and save big. I get email and text coupons for 40-50% off one regular priced item at least once a week. You can also get early access to weekly ad deals, free shipping offers, and more perks.

When checking out, don’t be afraid to ask about any additional store-specific promotions they might have going on. Around back-to-school season, my store gave out reusable tote bags filled with art supplies to teachers with a valid school ID.

If you purchase an item and then realize it’s not quite right once you get home, returns and exchanges at the Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby are simple. Just keep your receipt and bring the unused product back within 90 days. Make sure you check their return policy online first in case you need to provide the credit card used for purchase.

As much as I wish I could, I can’t spend all day every day in my happy place wandering the Hobby Lobby aisles. That’s why I love their order online, pick up in-store option! It’s free and ready usually within a couple hours. I can quickly browse online, place my order, then swing by later that day to retrieve my craft stash.

Given the past few years, I also appreciate their COVID-19 safety measures. They have plastic shields at checkout, social distancing reminders, hand sanitizer stations, and employees wear masks. I feel comfortable craft shopping knowing they implemented precautions.

Speaking of comfort, this store is wheelchair accessible and disability friendly. They have designated parking spaces near the entrance, automatic doors, wide spacious aisles, and accessible checkout counters. No one should have to miss out on the joy of arts and crafts!

With a whole section devoted to seasonal crafts and decor, you can bet the Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby has me covered for holiday inspiration. I still have the Fall and Christmas decor I purchased last year – twinkle lights, faux pumpkins, wreaths, tinsel garland, and so much more to make my home festive for every season.

Based on the reviews I read online, other customers seem to enjoy shopping at this store as much as I do. The Baton Rouge location has 4 out of 5 stars across Google, Facebook, and other sites. Positive feedback mentions the friendly employees, great prices, and huge selection.

And these crafty savings get even better when you join their mailing list! I signed up to receive emails, and now I’m the first to know about special coupons sent to subscribers only, invites to pre-sales events, notifications about rare restocks of popular items, and more exclusive offers.

In addition to arts and crafts staples, the Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby stocks home furniture and decor like rugs, storage solutions, small furnishings, and wall art. I found the perfect vanity table for my bedroom makeup area here for an absolute steal! Their home goods selection rivals any dedicated home store.

If you can’t find an answer to your question on their website, don’t hesitate to contact the store directly. You can call the Baton Rouge location at (225) 295-5870 during business hours or submit a contact form online anytime. I’ve always received prompt, helpful responses when reaching out.

Parking is no problem at the Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby in the massive Cortana Place parking lot. There are hundreds of spaces near the front entrance so I can load all my arts and crafts haul right into my car. The well-lit lot makes me feel safe even when shopping until closing time.

With such incredible prices, selection, and service, it’s no wonder I always leave this store feeling inspired by everything I found. The Baton Rouge Hobby Lobby truly is a crafter’s paradise!
